Carl covered the retirement of a few of the Alcos in his previous post. here is a bit more on the Alcos.
103, ex-Delray connecting, was aquired by the ACY in 1961. The unit only lasted until 1963, as it was destroyed in a wreck (loss of air pressure for the brakes). Carl may be able to give more information on the location of the 103 wreck. One of the Walker brothers (I believe Zane) was the engineer. The crew was lucky to have survived, as the train had several tankers of butadiene (highly explosive). The last time I heard of a wreck where butadiene was in the train consist (somewhere in Georgia), the EPA evacuated everyone within 2 miles of the accident site. Sorry I do not know the exact dates.
104-108, all ex-NKP engines, were aquired beginning in 1964. some were aquired from N&W after their takover of the NKP.
102, the RS-1, was retired in 1964 and sold to George Silcott, a used locomotive broker, in Columbus Ohio. Final disposition is unknown at this time.
