We know there are quite a few individualss who would like to do this; but scheduling conflicts, work schedules, health issues, distance from Northern Ohio, and other similar issues prevent some of our long-time AC&Y fans from doing the things necessary to bring this about. In short, we need some new blood. We need to enlist the help of individuals who live in or near Northern Ohio, who can devote some time and effort to making this happen. Former event organizers can and will be willing to provide advice and backup support to anyone who wishes to take the ball and run with it.
Past experience has tended to favor late October or November, but this could be adjusted. Past meetings have featured slide programs, updates on Society business such as the recent book and the status of the Society Archives, addresses by respected rail historians, tables for vendors, and model contests and opportunities to show off scale models representing structures and equipment of the AC&Y and its connecting and affiliated railroads. Catered meals (preordered and prepaid by the participant) have been provided in the past. Casual conversations, exchanges of information, and a general sense of fellowship have always characterized these meetings, and contributed to our Society's well-deserved reputation as one of the most friendly and welcoming of its kind.
If anyone would like to step up and be a part of an organizing effort for such as event, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I'll get you in touch with the right people.
Hope to see you all at the next meeting (whenever it gets scheduled).
