Weekend Photo Shoot - Sunday 6/24/12

Postby mattwoods » Sat Jun 23, 2012 1:44 pm

Gentlemen:

These are my offerings for this week. One of my two consolidations, my proto free-lanced Vaughnsville depot, and a scratch built W&LE depot that is essentially the Curtice Depot but could be an adequate stand in for Spencer. It needs a chimney and signs.

Here is ABB #28 working the interchange on Spur 4. This is a Stewart (Bowser) model with some added detail and an ESU Loksound decoder.

RJ:

Thanks for posting. Your locomotive looks good. I've done one also but it was a compromised Athearn S12. The Stewart model is definitely a more accurate starting point. Keep up the good work.

All,
Great work by all whom have posted!
Ralph,
Please post more photos of you Spur 4 for work! I would love to see how you have approached this area. Also, would be interested in seeing your track plan.

ABBRR,

I like the weathering job on the engine. Looks identical to some photos I have seen with the touched up paint contrasting with the rest of the engine. Well done.

97 at the east end of Delphos yard. Cloverleaf yard in the background. Obviously the engines need the end handrails applied, as well as some truck detail and weathering. I still need to add the caboose track and storage track to the back of the engine house.

I wanted to join in on the A&BBRR theme so here are a couple of pictures in Akron.

Excuse the inaccuracies of my number 28. The paint job is good but the lettering is lacking. I tried to get custom decals printed but there was a little debaucle so I went with dry transfers. Unfortunately no periods in the Woodland Scenics dry transfer sets.

I'm going to get serious about doing one of these this winter and find a Stewart S12 with proper handrails and try to get the right beacons also.

By the way, if anybody needs some S-Scale decals for these locomotives, I have them.

I also included a couple of the Atlas cement hoppers weathered.

Very nice picture and model! What did you use for the lettering? Microscale or some other manufacturer? That's how I'd hope my loco would turn out when it's done!!
Also will echo the request for more pics and a trackplan of your work.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Robert and Tim,

The decals are a Microscale alphabet set. It doesn't include any periods so I made those using yellow trim film and the smallest hole punch I could find at a craft store. I think they're a tad large, especially in photos.

My Spur 4 model was essentially a switching layout about 8 feet long. It really only included General Tire plant 1 (selectively compressed) and the ABBRR interchange. The ABBRR went off in one direction under S Martha Ave through the backdrop and into a two track staging siding. The rest of Spur 4 curved in the other direction, also going under S. Martha (modeler's license) to serve Goodyear plants 1 and 2 which were represented by some flats on the backdrop. Goodyear traffic just passed though the scene through the backdrop and into a staging cassette in the other room.

This was supposed to be the beginning a larger AC&Y layout, but when I began building the benchwork for the expansion, I really didn't like losing so much space in the basement. The layout suffered from some design flaws - primarily the ABB interchange was way too short. One curve was too sharp and led directly into a turnout that was problematic. I used Shinohara code 70 turnouts which I found to be pretty unreliable (though they looked great). So, I'm in the process of dismantling and starting over. Design TBD.
