AC&Y-A&BB Book Update III

Postby Luke » Sat Jun 28, 2014 11:43 am

The final 128-page AC&Y-A&BB book layout draft was submitted to Morning Sun in late April, 2014 after nearly a two-year effort by a dedicated team of AC&Y-A&BB enthusiasts. Other M/S book authors have shared that the M/S publishing / editing can range from 6 to 9 months, essentially a process of converting our layouts to print ready software. Once that task is completed, we will have a brief opportunity to make changes / additions and/or corrections. Morning Sun books are printed in Korea to the highest standards. I understand that printing times are not long, though shipping / distribution likely will add at least another month or two to the available date. I believe all will be thrilled with the Society book effort which has already been declared "magnificent" by Morning Sun's Bob Yanosey! I will continue to post updates on the Society Forum. Bob

Will ACYHS be offering the book for sale? As you gentlemen have done the work getting it together, I would prefer to buy it from you (at full price) rather than from a third party. The profits could offset ACYHS costs incurred in working on it, orother projects.

Dan,
The Society has negociated dealer privilges with Morning Sun and will have a limited number of the new AC&Y-A&BB book for sale dealer direct.

The design (layout) phase has been quite extensive, more than I realized. Our book will include features not seen in other Morning Sun books. These include use of selected colorized images and use of multi-color pages (versus a single page color throughout). We also have incorporated more than 300 images (versus the recommended 250-260). Included are roster summaries for both AC&Y and A&BB motive power, revenue and non-revenue equipment; also, summaries of stations and key bridges. More than thirty topics are covered in sub-chapters with ample coverage of AC&Y's renowned Fairbanks-Morse road switchers and Brittain yard. Most of the images have not been seen before. The image quality is superb! Morning Sun has declared the book "outstanding" and "magnificent".

Note that Morning Sun has just announced availablity in April 2015 (see link below). Suspect that is a conservative date.

Good evening,

When you say that the April 2015 date is conservative, do you mean it will be available sooner than that? Do you know how many copies the Society will be able to sell at the dealer direct price?

I'm looking forward to studying my copy!!

Thanks for the update!!

Tim

Tim,
I understand Morning Sun books are printed in Korea. The logistics of shipping completed books by steam ship (sea container) no doubt would be problematic. Morning Sun also has an extensive nationwide dealer network which would require additional time to position stock. At this point, no decision has been made on how many books the Society would request for resale. Bob
