MODEL THIS.... AC&Y Phone Booth!

Here is drawing from the Society Archive with a corresponding photo of the AC&Y standard phone booth. The prototype was photographed 1964 at Silver Street in Akron with what appears to be a flat roof in lieu of the original peaked design. Silver Street was the west end of the Akron yard limits, so crews communicated with dispatchers. Similar booths were found elsewhere on the AC&Y. It's amazing that this structure was still around given the drawing is dated 1912. Archive records indicate the use of tuscan or freight car red applied on many AC&Y wood structures. "Ready Roofing" was the commercial terminology for rolled tar paper. This would be a relatively easy modeling project. Modelers post your photos! REL
