Accurail has announced a series of 36-foot wood-sheathed boxcars in HO-scale. The cars are in four variations are scheduled for late summer 2016 release. See http://www.accurail.com/accurail/CATALO ... l_36ft.pdf

These are entirely new models representing early prototype equipment built 1910-1930 and lasting into the post-WWII years. Some cars survived longer in MOW service. The Accurail 1700-series (steel roof, wood end and deep "fish-belly" center-sill underframe) should closely represent the AC&Y's 500-series double-sheathed boxcars. Accurail plans to offer one model in AC&Y lettering.

Ray Breyer is documenting the four variations. (see http://designbuildop.hansmanns.org/accu ... type-data/

A total of thirty-five 500-series boxcars were built by ACF Industries in 1912, among the first AC&Y revenue freight cars. That story is told in the Fall 2002 AC&Y News magazine (portions also attached).

Better yet is that the 36' deep-sill underframe should serve as the basis for AC&Y's famous home-built bay-window and off-set cupola wood cabooses.

As mentioned, Ray Breyer is documenting the railroad prototype 36' boxcars corresponding to the four series to soon be offered by Accurail. The Accurail 1700-series (steel roof, wood end and deep "fish-belly" center-sill underframe) should closely represent the AC&Y's 500-series double-sheathed boxcars. Ray's research on the AC&Y and similar cars can be found in the 1700-series data sheet using the link below:

http://hansmanns.org/accurail_data_1700series.pdf

Ray mentions the thirty-five AC&Y 500-series boxcars were repurposed starting with construction of eleven home-built bay-window and cupola type cabooses in the early 1920's. We will scan and post Tom Davidson's great story on AC&Y's "Matchbox Cabooses" for those who will have interest in using components of the Accurail car kits (namely the deep sill underframe) to scratchbuild these unique cabooses.
