Re: Railway Prototype Cyclopedia - Number 27

Bob : Was at the RPM convention in Chicago last weekend , and picked up a copy of RP CYC 27. It is a really amazing work. Information , tons of prototype photos. Well worth the price for the wealth of info. Question : Where did / who made the National B - Timken roller bearing trucks on the one car ...

ACY HS NEWS

Hope you have all gotten your Vol XVII number 3 and 4 by now. I was very glad to receive them. The carbon black issue was really valuable. Did you notice the bottom back page picture. It is a picture of the prototype of Athearn's carbon black car. I had always thought that scheme was one Irv cooked ...

Letter from Mr Peacock

Today received very sad news. i just want to say I appreciate the efforts of all the people that made up the ACY Historical Society. I only wish I could have been more help. Distance made it very difficult to be more active, but I really enjoyed the conventions. I will continue to design and get pri...

Re: Fall 2012 AC&Y HS News

Anyone really interested in carbon black cars needs to get a copy of Eric Neubauer's book - It is a freight cars journal book. It was in their monogram series - #15. It contains a complete history of the owners , manufacturers , number of cars owned. It also has line drawings of all the major variat...

Re: International Caboose Kits

Caboose looks great. How did the decals fit? I tried to get them as close as possible. Only had photos to work from, so was
afraid they might be a little off. Look like they fit nicely through the letterboard area.

Re: Carbon Black Covered Hopper Modeling

Bob : The cars look very nice. I will be bringing several completed carbon black cars with me to the convention. I have done some Sid Richardson cars. I used to see them parked in sidings along I-75 in Findley , Ohio . I think they were being stored for use by the Cooper Tire people .

ACY #105 S-2 Diesel

Have gotten my #105 mostly done. I have a picture from the Jay Williams & Big Four Graphics people that I am using for details and such. When I look at , I am questioning whether the hand rail stanchions are black or yellow. The handrail itself seems to be black. It doesn't appear to ever have been ...

Re: Building Sunshine Model kits

The inset of the ends from the sides is good info to have. I finally kind of discovered that when I test fit the floor into the box and found it was way to narrow. Took whole car apart and started over ( the material these kits are made of lets you do that). The thing I finally realized after I got ...

Re: Building Sunshine Model kits

Bob : I was wondering about that. I have started building this kit. Boy ! What a learning experience. I have built resin kits before , but this one is tough. Unfortunately , I find that the materials included are really of minimal help. They seem to be of a very generic nature , and the information ...

Re: Building Sunshine Model kits

Bob: Thanks for the info. I was aware of the need to wash before and after. I put together one of F& C's B&O round top covered hoppers and they recommend the washing step also. I will give my parts another dunk in dish soap - see if the oily feel goes away. I am not sure if you tried to glue the kit...
