Gibbs Motors - Medina

Here is a example of modeling a "selectively compressed" prototype structure, the former Chevrolet Dealer located just North of the AC&Y in Medina. The Gibbs Motors dealership, now gone, was located at the SE corner of Smith Rd. and Court Street. It begs to be modeled which was accomp...

Medina in HO - Work in Progress

Here are recent views of Medina on my HO scale AC&Y layout.... experimenting/evaluating with scenery techniques using scratch-built and kit-bashed/upgraded commercial structures.

Re: What you can do with Society decals

Matt, Believe the "AKRON CANTON & YOUNGSTOWN" road name lettering came from either the steam decal set or the D-1/D-2 set. If I recall, the road name dimensions were the same for both applications, which makes sense. AC&Y shop forces simply reused the steam stencil to letter the n...

Re: Mount Blanchard depot

Matt, Mt. Blanchard was a scheduled (mixed train) stop 45.1 miles from Delphos. According to Archive records, the Mt. Blanchard depot, built 1898, was considered a "Type III" wood frame design and was 16' wide X 28' long X 16' high. It was built with a rolled (tar) paper roof, but likely ...

Re: Mount Blanchard depot

Matt, Here is a photo gleaned from Mark Camp's book "Railroad Depots of West Central Ohio". Mark was a guest speaker at a recent AC&Y HS Annual Meeting. The photo show a partial view of the Mount Blanchard Elevator. I may have additional photos and the Society Archive would have track...

Re: Delphos yard

Delphos modelers (I am one as well) might be interested in this early track arrangement and photo of the Delphos yard. The drawing shows the Clover Leaf Division terminal and the two turntables. The AC&Y (Northern Ohio) turntable was removed about 1922 if I recall and a wye later installed. The...

Re: Spencer Feed Mill Destroyed By Fire

Matt, Sorry to hear of the demise of the old Spencer Elevator. It was a classic structure, part of the Northern Ohio/AC&Y legacy and a modeler's dream. I had witnessed its slow deterioration over the past 35-years. Fortunately, it has been well preserved photographically; also, within Society A...

ALCO #600 Demonstrator

An ALCO Locomotive builders erection card for ALCO demonstrator No. 600 was found in the Society Archive. Anyone have more specific knowledge or care to speculate why it was in the AC&Y records? REL
