Re: Layout planning

As Tom mentions, I wanted to feature Hiles / New London in my layout, but faced the issue with the prototype track arrangement further west. Those familiar with the area will recall that the AC&Y crossed the double track mainline of Big Four-NYC at Hiles, circumnavigated New London and a few miles ...

MODEL THIS.... AC&Y Phone Booth!

Here is drawing from the Society Archive with a corresponding photo of the AC&Y standard phone booth. The prototype was photographed 1964 at Silver Street in Akron with what appears to be a flat roof in lieu of the original peaked design. Silver Street was the west end of the Akron yard limits, so ...

Re: Brittain Yard Operations

Most AC&Y fans and modelers would be surprised to know that the Brittain engine terminal had a much different arrangement before addition of the diesel shop and installation of a 90' turntable in the mid-1940's. The turntable before was just 75' in length and the roundhouse was eleven stalls. Anoth...

Re: The diamonds at CG

Jim Evans sent along these photos of a November 1948 derailment of a southbound B&O train at Columbus Grove. Note "CG" tower looks pristine in this image and the DT&I line which paralleled the B&O is still active. REL
