O Scale Mather boxcars!

Today I went to the annual Eastern Pennsylvania 2 Rail Scale & Hi Rail Show & Swap Meet at the Strasburg Fire Company in Strasburg, Pennsylvania. Lots of O Scalers were present, including Rich Yoder of RY Models, importer of brass scale models in 1:20.3, 1/4", On3, and On30. His product...

Re: Scale drawings for F-M H20-44 (AC&Y 500-508)

Thanks. The drawings are interesting. We have some fairly simple drawings that have been published in the AC&YHS News, plus a different set that was published by Railroad Model Craftsman many, many years ago. The level of detail in the drawings featured on that site appear to be about the same a...

Scale drawings for F-M H20-44 (AC&Y 500-508)

Do any of our members know of a source for good, reliable, thorough scale drawings for these locos, which were the mainstay of AC&Y motive power from 1948 until the end of AC&Y's independent existence? If you or anybody you know has this info, we'd sure love to know about it. All of our memb...

Re: Alliance Ohio Caboose

On my recent trip to Ohio I drove about 50 miles out of my way & checked on this. Arrived at the Farmers Market around 1:00 PM Saturday Sept 6, and immediately recognized the car as being the same general style as AC&Y's pioneer International cabooses, but more modern, with an all-welded bod...

Re: Alliance Ohio Caboose

Since we don't have any answers yet, I looked up "Alliance, Ohio Farmers' Market" and found a site with 40 photos, of which 2 show the caboose. It's a rather modern steel car that looks like those built by International Car Co., although I can't confirm that without closer examination. It ...

Re: Alliance Ohio Caboose

You might also want to look around under the car to see if there are vestiges of numbers or lettering on the underframe or the truck bolsters. These areas generally had the identifying data stenciled there when in regular service. In the event of a derailment, the trucks were often separated from th...

Re: Alliance Ohio Caboose

One of the first things to check is the cast-in lettering on the trucks. The original railroad initials are often cast into the truck side frames. Of course, this is not a 100% reliable source of information because trucks were sometimes replaced. If the original owning RR merged or changed identity...

HO AC&Y Covered hopper announced

Accurail has announced the August, 2014 release of a 3-bay ACF Center Flow covered hopper in an AC&Y lettering scheme. The AC&Y bought these 4460 cu. ft. cars, numbers 440-459, in 1965. According to Wade Griffis' article in the latest AC&Y Modeler, the Accurail car is actually 3'6" ...

Newly announced in N Gauge

The latest catalog from Atlas lists the N Gauge PS-1 boxcar in an original (1951) paint scheme, scheduled for November, 2014 delivery. The artwork shows car number 842, but the text indicates that number 704 will be offered as well. These are identified as catalog item number 50 001 932-50 001 933. ...
