The Archive of the Akron, Canton & Youngstown Railroad Historical Society is the primary element in the Society's mission to preserve the history of the Akron, Canton & Youngstown Railroad and its predecessors. The Archive is a repository of data covering over a century of the AC&Y's history.
Our collection of financial records, documents, maps, drawings, track diagrams and photographs is both impressive and invaluable. Because the AC&YHS Archive Collection is vast and varied, yet thoroughly documented through AFE (Authority for Expenditure), it is a unique chronological example of a Class I "fallen flag". It begins with the 1907 organization, past the 1964 merger with Norfolk & Western, and into the 1970's.
This collection provides first-hand information for authors writing books, articles and stories for publication; manufacturers creating historically accurate models for commercial production; and hobbyists recreating historical models and scenes for personal pleasure. The Archives also provides the source material for the Society's own publication program. These activities further the Society's educational mission to promote the history of Akron, Canton & Youngstown Railroad Historical Society.
If you possess materials or know the whereabouts of items that have potential historical importance to our collection, we urge you to contact the AC&YHS to discuss the possibility of providing for archival protection.Donors may be assured that all deposits are handled in ways that facilitate long-term preservation and usability. The Akron, Canton & Youngstown Railroad Historical Society Archive Committee will supply you a donation form.
